1. Recovery time of the memory pillow
Many consumers believe that the longer the resistance lasts, the better—this is a misconception. Experts advise that the optimal duration of resistance is about 3 to 5 seconds. If it’s too short, the slow-rebound effect won’t be achieved; if it’s too long, the body will become stiff.

Use a stopwatch to measure the rebound time, aiming for 3–5 seconds.
2. Density of the memory pillow
Density is a fundamental performance indicator for slow-rebound materials. For molded-memory pillows, a density of 90 D or higher is considered a high-density product. Experts warn that molded polyurethane can achieve densities as high as 120–150 D, while cut-molded products typically reach around 100 D, whereas conventional domestic manufacturing processes generally hover around 50 D. Moreover, even products with the same density can vary significantly, primarily due to differences in formulation, processing techniques, and raw materials. In other words, molded slow-rebound materials tend to be high-density, but high density alone does not necessarily guarantee superior material quality. Higher density is generally preferable—indeed, ultra-high-density foams (typically 120 D or above) offer better breathability and enhanced conformity to the human body’s contours.

3. Is the memory pillow made of 100% pure materials?
Are all pillows made of 100% polyurethane? Is talc added to increase density? This is the industry’s production process—and the secret behind high-density pillows. Experts caution that, at present, more than 90% of viscoelastic pillows on the Chinese market are not manufactured using pure materials, making it increasingly difficult to use density as a reliable indicator of pillow quality.
4. Has the memory pillow passed the safety inspection?
Slow-rebound materials are chemical substances, and their chemical composition can pose certain health risks; therefore, safety parameters must be strictly controlled during production. It is essential to ensure that the volatilization of any toxic or harmful substances in the slow-rebound material is fully effective, that the pillow is appropriately designed, and that it meets all relevant safety inspection standards. Currently, inspections for slow-rebound products typically include tests for toxic and harmful substances as well as load-bearing performance assessments. Viscoelastic memory foam pillows may emit an odor when first used, but there is no need to worry—this is perfectly normal. In general, the odor will dissipate within 4 to 5 days.
5. The feel and temperature-sensing feel of the memory pillow
Temperature sensitivity has little to do with pillow density. It mainly depends on the manufacturer’s mature production process—specifically, the extent to which additives are incorporated into the material. High-quality slow-rebound memory foam feels comfortable and has a dough-like texture when you press it. With very slow rebound, the sensation is often barely noticeable, or the material may feel somewhat stiff. At the same time, this type of slow rebound also exhibits excellent temperature responsiveness: as the temperature changes, the material softens or firms up, and you can even see an imprint left by your hand without applying any pressure. Choose a reputable brand.
Today, the market is flooded with memory pillows marketed as “warm-temperature” or “thermoregulating” for colds and flu. For this reason, experts strongly advise choosing well-known, reputable brands whenever possible. There’s good reason for this: large, established companies typically employ mature technologies in material selection, processing, formulation, and manufacturing, ensuring superior performance—though their products may carry a slightly higher price tag, the value they deliver remains excellent.
