The four-piece silk quilt insert should always be used inside a quilt cover; otherwise, the insert is prone to picking up dust and stains. When sleeping, avoid lying directly on the quilt or tucking it under your body, as this will help maintain the silk quilt’s fluffy, airy feel.
Storing the four-piece set: Before storage, air it out thoroughly to remove as much internal moisture as possible. Do not store it in a damp, stuffy environment or seal it in plastic bags, as this can cause the silk to absorb moisture, develop an unpleasant odor, and lose its warmth and breathability. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of the quilt to prevent it from becoming thinner and harder. Do not use chemical mothballs or other such agents, as they can contaminate the silk.
Washing the four-piece set: If the duvet cover becomes dirty, it can be removed and washed in cold water. However, the silk quilt core must not be washed with water, dry-cleaned, bleached with chlorine, or ironed. If stains do appear, take the item to a professional dry cleaner and have it spot-cleaned with a specialized detergent, then tumble-dried on a low-heat setting to prevent shrinkage of the fabric. For minor stains, gently wipe them with a neutral detergent. Finally, hang the four-piece set out to air-dry.
If a newly purchased four-piece silk quilt has a slight smell of silkworm pupae, simply air it in a well-ventilated area for two days. Silk quilts should be aired regularly, ideally every 1–2 weeks for 1–2 hours each time. Avoid exposing the quilt to direct, intense sunlight for extended periods, as this can degrade the proteins in the silk fibers and cause them to break. After airing, gently pat the quilt with your hands to help maintain its fluffiness.
