A Method for Manufacturing a Bedding Set Mattress with Adjustable Hardness

  As people’s material living standards continue to rise, more and more individuals are paying attention to their quality of life. Sleep accounts for one-third of our daily lives, and the four-piece bedding set—including the mattress—is an indispensable household item. With improving living standards, consumers are placing increasingly higher demands on mattresses in terms of appearance, functionality, environmental friendliness, and overall product quality. Consequently, mattress development is now trending toward greater three-dimensionality and multifunctionality. Currently, mattresses are generally classified into spring mattresses, coir mattresses, latex mattresses, water mattresses, and air mattresses.

 Four-piece bedding set

  Among these four-piece bed sets, spring mattresses are one of the most commonly used types. A spring mattress features a layer of springs inside, topped with an appropriately selected cushioning layer. However, over time, the springs tend to rust and lose their elasticity. Moreover, the overall structure of existing mattresses often fails to meet the needs of different applications, thereby limiting the versatility of current Simmons mattresses. Although the market currently offers a wide variety of mattresses, both spring mattresses and all-foam mattresses have fixed firmness levels; once consumers bring them home and find them uncomfortable, there is no way to adjust the level of support.

  In view of the shortcomings of the prior art, the present inventors provide a mattress with adjustable firmness for use as a four-piece bedding set. The adjustable-firmness mattress comprises an inflatable-bag layer, an air pump, and a control unit. The control unit is mounted on the conduit connecting the inflatable-bag layer to the air pump and includes an air-control valve and an external-input response circuit; the external-input response circuit is connected respectively to the air-control valve and the air pump. The external-input response circuit controls the operation of the air pump, while the air-control valve responds to the control signals from the external-input response circuit to either connect the inflatable-bag layer to the air pump—thereby inflating the bag—or to connect the inflatable-bag layer to the external environment—thereby deflating the bag—or to close the communication passage between the inflatable-bag layer and the external environment, thereby sealing the bag and achieving adjustment of the mattress’s firmness.

  The inflatable bag layer comprises a left airbag and a right airbag; each airbag is connected to an inflator via an air control valve, and both air control valves are connected to the same external input response circuit. The assembly also includes a top sponge, side-bar sponges, and a bottom support sponge. The inflatable bag layer is positioned within the space enclosed by the top sponge, the side-bar sponges, and the bottom support sponge. The hardness of the top sponge is lower than that of the side-bar sponges, and the hardness of the side-bar sponges is lower than that of the bottom support sponge. The surface of the bottom support sponge that contacts the inflatable bag layer is configured in a wave-like pattern.

  The top surface of the left airbag and/or right airbag in the bed’s four-piece set is provided with four strip-shaped protrusions arranged around its perimeter, forming a frame-like support structure. These strip-shaped protrusions are continuously arranged along the width of the area enclosed by the frame-like support, thereby constituting a seat-support structure. The bed also includes a handheld remote control device that is wirelessly connected to an external input-response circuit; the handheld remote control device is configured to activate the external input-response circuit, transmit control information to the circuit based on external input signals, and receive feedback information from the circuit. The handheld remote control device is equipped with either a keyboard assembly or a touch screen, which is used to acquire external input information. In addition, the handheld remote control device includes a display screen for showing both the external input information and the feedback information.

  Compared with the prior art, the aforementioned adjustable-hardness mattress offers the following beneficial effects: its primary advantage is that consumers can select the desired level of firmness based on their personal preferences, thereby achieving optimal comfort. Moreover, the mattress is divided into left- and right-side sections, allowing two individuals sleeping on it to independently adjust the firmness of each side according to their own preferences.
